There was a time when I only took photographs when I was on a holiday in another country. I thought that the Netherlands were just a flat pancake with only two things: grass with cows and cities. So I rather took photographs in Switserland or Italy, at least they had mountains! And then I grew up;-)) After a certain age the number of parties and the amount of alcohol decreases, which probably enabled me to open my eyes a bit wider. I actually started to see things I never saw before! And you know what? The Netherlands are beautiful! Sure, the Rocky Mountains are great, Iceland is beautiful and so is Switserland. New Zealand is simply stunning and so are a lot of other places. You don't even have to go there to know that, just have a look at a National Geographic magazine and you'll see what I mean. But wherever you live can be just as beautiful, different but still beautiful. The bottom line: You can photograph anywhere, anytime. Just open your eyes and look around! Here are some hints:
In and around your home
The garden, the pond, flowers, plants, trees, the shape or details of a leaf, fish or frogs in the pond, insects on the plants. Your pets, the dog next door. Need I go on? Okay, one more: If you have a garden, try putting a bird feeder somewhere. You'll be amazed how many birds are attracted to the food you put there, even in the summer!

Around your city or town
Same here, just a bigger area which means even more chances! You might have a local zoo. Maybe even a wildlife park in the neighbourhood, or a botanical garden. Look for water, there's always an abundance of life near water!

Around your country
Again look for a zoo, wildlife park, refuge, botanical garden. Take a day off from work and go to the seaside or the forest, or go to a river or a lake. Go into the mountains if you can. Mountains and lakes are great for landscape photography!

When you are travelling abroad
This time you might be lucky and see things you are not able to see at home... I'm always looking for mountains when I'm abroad;-))
Now start looking around and get those images!
